We’re excited to play at The Garage in Winston-Salem tonight, but we feel like we need to pipe up on the controversy surrounding Phuzz Phest. As a band and as individuals, we definitely don’t want to support any ideology that, inadvertently or not, validates violence as a means of art.
Women are far too often silenced as victims of violence. It’s sad that this is still a cultural norm and that the perpetrators of abuse are often allowed to continue hurting people because people are afraid to speak up. The real point here is that people are finding their voices, and they are using them to speak out. It is a movement, and we are a community. We need to hold each other and create safe space for conversations like this. We need to create safe spaces at our shows for people to speak up, and to be heard. We’re playing tonight, but with the hope of creating that space and supporting our sisters and brothers and their voices. Thanks everyone. Let’s keep talking.
